Creature Creation Workshop

Tom Devlin's Creature Creation workshop is a two weekend course in creating a front of the face prosthetic. This workshop is not held in a classroom or conference room. You will be learning real makeup effects skills within a working makeup fx studio.

In this course you will:

  • Make a life cast
  • Create a positive from your cast
  • Sculpt your creature
  • Mold your sculpture
  • Run a foam latex prosthetic
  • Paint and apply your finished appliance

At the end of the second weekend you will get photos of your work for your portfolio and a basic FX supply kit.

These workshops are limited to only 6 students at a time to ensure individual attention throughout the creation of your creature!

Fees:

The cost for the Creature Creation Workshop is $1,000.00 US dollars. This fee includes all supplies needed for the course. Everything that you make for the course will be yours to keep.

Saturday and Sunday, MAY 2ND and 3RD and Saturday and Sunday, MAY 9TH and 10TH

This course takes place over TWO weekends. You will be expected to take home your sculpture and complete it throughout the week in between.

All workshops are held at 1313FX, which is located just three miles east of Downtown Los Angeles.

About the Instructor

Tom Devlin has been working as a professional Makeup FX artist for 9 years. He studied at the Joe Blasco Makeup School, then spent a few years working with Matthew Mungle's WM Creations where he worked on several Hollywood films and television series. During this time, Tom and the WM team were nominated for an Emmy for their work on the X-Files. Tom also took turns working for Almost Human, Optic Nerve and Makeup Effects Laboratory. Tom then set out to make a name for himself and started up 1313FX. Under 1313FX, Tom has worked as Key Special Makeup FX or Makeup FX Supervisor on 50 feature films. Tom has also been certified by the State of California to teach Special Makeup FX and Prosthetics. He has previously taught several classes at Cinema Makeup School and seen many of his students go on to find work in the industry.
